ROTODIFF® hydrostatic drive

The ROTODIFF hydraulic motor is a high-torque radial piston motor which controls the differential speed between the bowl and scroll. The ROTODIFF hydraulic drive replaces the gear. The housing of the hydraulic motor is connected to the bowl and, as a result, rotates at the bowl speed. The drive unit, rotor (3) drives the scroll directly and, as a result, only rotates slowly at the differential speed.

The differential speed influences the retention time of the solids in the bowl. Using the ROTODIFF hydraulic drive, the differential speed can be directly controlled based on the load and the screw torque. As such, the consistently high quality of the output solids can be attained through this process.

With electronically controlled operating and control systems from Viscotherm, important values such as the hydraulic pressure, bowl and differential speeds can be monitored, displayed and set. The scroll drive can also be controlled remotely. Thanks to fieldbus technology, these control units can be integrated easily into other process control systems.

VISCOTHERM drives have many inherent advantages

Outstanding weight / torque ratio
The ROTODIFF hydraulic drive weighs on average only 50% as much as a gear unit with the same rated torque.

Overload-protected
A series of protection functions and a safety pressure valve protect all mechanical components of the drive against overload. High torque capacity.

Long service life / simplicity and robustness
Automatic heat dissipation via the oil conditioning system. None of the overheating problems of gear units. The ROTODIFF boasts minimal operating and maintenance costs and an outstanding serve life.

Behaviour of the drive in special operation; 100% torque capacity in any operating mode
Moving clear at standstill / scroll direction of rotation reversal possible. Emergency cleaning of a clogged decanter can be carried out when it is at a standstill.

Outstanding controllability and operating safety
The hydraulic system pressure is proportional to the torque, which means that the pressure is used directly as a control variable or correcting variable in a control loop (automatic mode).

Improved energy efficiency and throughput capacity
Reduced electrical installation and improved efficiency enable a lower energy consumption. The throughput capacity of the decanter can be optimised through improved process control and the high torque capacity.
